这两个挂钟都是以电池为动力的便宜货品，起初被设置为同样的时刻，而随时间推移会逐渐开始有不同误差，最后需要重新校时才能回到同样的时间。这不仅指代了时光流逝，更暗喻爱情那并不十全十美却历久弥新的永恒魅力。
